Kota Marudu Member of Parliament

Maijol to contest against Maximus in Kota Marudu

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) will be fielding its deputy president, Datuk Maijol Mahap, to contest in the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat in the coming 14th general election.

Maijol’s candidacy was announced by party president Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin at the launching of Harapan Rakyat Kota Marudu branch recently.

Lajim said Maijol, who is also Harapan Kota Marudu division chief, had the potential to wrestle the parliamentary seat from incumbent Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

“This is because of the close working relationship of the local opposition parties in Gabungan Sabah as well as the failure of the current member of parliament to voice out the rights of the constituents in parliament,” Lajim said.

He also claimed that Maijol would win because the rakyat wanted Gabungan Sabah to represent them to ensure that their rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 would be voiced out without fear and unaffected by outside threats.

In his speech, Lajim urged the rakyat to pit their support behind Gabungan Sabah’s choice of party and candidate in the coming election as the coalition was committed in championing the rights and welfare of the people.

“The commitment to fight for the rakyat remains strong even though a coalition member Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) had left. Its exit from Gabungan Sabah however has not affected the coalition or the people’s support for it,” Lajim who is also Klias assemblyman, said.

To him, all allegations and slander thrown at Gabungan Sabah, especially the one saying that it was pro-Umno, were just part of the political game of its opponents and were made with no proof.

“I left Umno because the party which dominates Barisan Nasional (BN) is still unable to fulfil the aspirations of Sabahans who want all their demands as per the Malaysia Agreement 1963 fulfilled.

“This is totally different from what another opposition leader has done which was to set up a political party after being sacked from Umno and is attempting to break up Gabungan Sabah,” Lajim claimed.
