Solving Marudu Safoda land claims via CT

Kota Marudu: Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili described Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman as an exemplary leader, who works hard to ensure the people's needs are met.

"He likes to be everywhere with the grassroots in big towns as well in remote villages to know first hand the needs of the people," said the MP, adding Musa is one who is determined to find solutions to the people's problems.

"And he does that all year round and every year, unlike the opposition leaders that appear in towns and villages only when they smell the air of coming election.

"We support leaders exemplified by the Chief Minister who work tirelessly to improve people's lot," he said after accompanying Musa at the Rungus Cultural Festival at Kampung Teringai Laut, organised by the Persatuan Rungus Bersatu Sabah, Thursday.

Ongkili further added that issue of customary land claims raised by locals involving Sabah Forestry Development Authority (Safoda) concession area in surrounding Kg Mangin, Kg Tonsom and Kg Sungoi Darat has also been brought to Musa's attention.

"I have discussed with the Chief Minister and he agreed to use Communal Title (CT) approach to excise truly native customary lands that have been developed by natives and meet conditions of the Land Ordinance.

Musa in his reply stressed that the people's needs will always be top priority of the government.

"In addition, he (Musa) also acknowledged the potential of Pantai Teringai as tourism development and destination, and therefore advised orderly development of the area," Ongkili concluded.

Also present were State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, Sabah State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman, Tandek Assemblywoman Datuk Anita Baranting and Kota Marudu District Officer, Arnold Joibi.
