PENAMPANG: Tamparuli Assemblyman Datuk Jahid Jahim has been appointed as Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) new Secretary General, while his Kiulu counterpart Datuk Joniston Bangkuai is taking over as the party’s Chief Information Officer, a move that will complement the party’s rejuvenation effort.

Both young but seasoned leaders are expected to inject vigour into the two key strategic party positions under a new-look PBS.

Announcing the appointments when chairing his first supreme council meeting since taking over as PBS president, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili reiterated that the new line-up was the advent of a reformed PBS.

“We have a good mix, a blend of proven veterans and about 40 per cent new faces, mainly young people, who are equally talented and capable leaders.

“These combination, who have shown promising leadership talents and contributions, will be able to inject new ideas and help PBS reach greater heights,” he said.

First-term Matunggong assemblywoman, Julita Majungki has been appointed as assistant secretary general while another new face, Abdul Rahman Datuk Kongkawan, who won the Labuk state seat in the recent general election has been appointed as a vice president under the Yellow quota (Muslim Bumiputera).

Meanwhile, Lu Kim Yen was appointed as Treasurer General and John Chryso Masabal as his assistant.

Former secretary general Datuk Johnny Mositun, meanwhile is appointed as a vice president under the Blue quota (non-Muslim Bumiputera) and Dr Joseph Lee is appointed to the same post under the Red quota (Chinese).

At the same time, Dr Maximus said PBS would set up its Council of Eminent Leaders to act as the party’s advisory council in generating proposals and programmes towards the betterment of the party.

It will be headed by Premier Advisor Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and co-chaired by Datuk Seri Michael Asang.

Others in the council were Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, Datuk Zublee KK Zen, Datuk Dr Osman Menudin, Datuk Herbert Timbun Lagadan, Datuk James Vitalis, Datuk Claudius Sundang Alex, Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, Datuk Dr Bernard Maraat, Datuk Thien Fui Yun and Chin Tze Min.

To ensure the smooth running of the party, eight bureaus were set up namely Administration and Finance, and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and Sabah Rights bureaus, both to be headed by the president himself; Discipline, and Illegal Immigrants and Foreign Workers bureaus (Datuk Radin Malleh); Research and Training Bureau (Datuk Jahid Jahim); Membership Drive and Database Bureau (Datuk Johnny Mositun); Law and Legal Matters Bureau (Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai); and the Youth and Women Bureau (Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman).

The new line-up will be sworn in on Dec 7, he said, adding that several vacant posts will be filled up in due course.

“It is my hope that this new line up will work together to strengthen the struggle of PBS, go down to the ground to meet the people and ensure that our programmes are carried out to include the  grassroot level besides assisting in recruitment in new memberships.

“Let us work together and stay united. We have gone a long way, thanks to the leadership and guidance from our former President.

‘Let us make PBS great again as we offer the party to  Malaysians in Sabah to champion their interests, rights and basic needs,” he said.-SabahNewsToday
